Lake Street Savers

He was just tired of winter. Well said. Six ways.

Cedar Cultural Center

She's not really so tall that I couldn't get the top of her head in the shot, just cramped quarters in the lobby of the Cedar. Like a crow, I was drawn to her sparkly skirt which she amplified with a dollar-store "tutu, to make it poufier." Also dig the shoes and the hi/lo affect with t-shirt. She mentioned that she is, like, in 7th grade and has been shot by a street style photographer before in NYC. I deduced later that she is one half of a sister musical team -- the other half was pulling emotion out of a cello on stage with singers Eliza Blue and Aby Wolf.

Walker Art Center

Very waif punk. I had to over-expose it because we were under the roof of the Walker... or maybe it's just her dark medicine. She's kind of giving me the stink eye.

Macalester student, Grand Ave.

Hello sunshine! The yellow tights sold me on the whole happy situation, n'est ce pas? Flower garden sweater is from Anthropologie. The patterned dress underneath may or may not be a nightgown. Optimistically springy while at the same time pragmatically warm.

gh2, minneapolis

Aren't I bad? Rhetorical question friends. I went to gh2 not for the clothes but for the people who inhabit them. Non-retail motives aside, I met these two individualists who worked at gh2 and we had a moment. First off, thanks for your post-it of importance. They turned me on to Bryanboy and my new love, Advanced Style, dedicated to very experienced sartorialists in NYC. I hope you will all take a minute and go back to my January 2, 2010 and November 2009 posts -- some wonderful wonderful dressers who are about 10 times more beautiful than 16 years old.

Ok, breathe, walk it off. Back to the gh2 crew -- the woman on the left is doing Moschino pants from the 80s and her mom's knock-off Versace pendant. The woman on the right has done right by her petite stature with a thrifted (did I just verb?) sweater and beat-up eyelet skirt of modest Gap provenance. Oh yeah, introduce yourselves to Wayne Tippetts Photography, although he is rather in the thrall of youth and beauty and makes no attempt to venture further.

boiled wool looks cute

I always associate a boiled wool jacket with my mom and an accompanying wool dirndl skirt. She liked material with "body"... so at least the clothes had some. At any rate, cute + boiled wool jacket would never have met in my mind until I spied this woman on Summit Ave. Not only did she un-dowdy the jacket, she's rocking her grandma's comfy loafers and still looks sassy. Well she is young and cute, so that may have something to do with it, but let's not discount the power of the very dark blue, slim and cuffed jeans, and the ruffled and sort of treasure map-printed tank that she made herself (!) She owns a screen printing business. If this was one of those Star magazine Who Wore It Better photos, I'd have to say this woman is wearing the living daylights out of the boiled wool jacket. Although the dirndl skirt wore my mom, hands down.

Salt Lake City airport

Do you look like this while traveling? Yah me too. I stalked this woman outside a restroom at the airport (another weird airport incident, right?), so she was not only wonderfully put together but kind as well. The soft grey texture of this coat, the shapely seaming and face-framing collar -- I could still like this garment in March despite daily use. I'm obsessed and impressed by people who can look good in winter attire.
